Kilimanjaro Co-operative Bank Limited (KCBL) is a regional Bank with dual registration as a Co-operative Society and Bank. It was registered as a Co-operative Society in 1994 under the Cooperative Societies Act. No. 15 of 1991 amended now the Cooperative Act of 2003. KCBL was granted a banking license in 1995 under the Banking and Financial Institutions Act of 1991 and started banking operations in July 1996.
Establishing the Bank was an idea conceived by members of cooperative societies in the Kilimanjaro region to cater to financial needs not being met by the existing commercial Banks. Most of the cooperative societies in the Region agreed to contribute towards the initial capital as required by BOT for the establishment of Banks.
Membership of KCBL is open to all registered Cooperative Societies inside and outside Kilimanjaro Region, Individuals, Groups, Companies, Governmental and non – Governmental organizations. The banking services are open to general public.
